Whilst on maternity leave I submitted a flexible return to work request, he responded by trying to downgrade my salary

During my pregnancy my boss wasn’t particularly supportive- he never once congratulated me and always refused to grant any basic requests to make my situation a little more comfortable. Despite the fact that I had been signed off work with sickness he contacted me several times and generally made me feel guilty for being off work. Whilst on maternity leave I submitted a flexible return to work request, he responded by trying to downgrade my salary. He then rejected my flexible return to work request and refused to accommodate any other forms of flexibility even though there was no valid reason to do so. I refused to be treated so badly and so consulted a lawyer- I am now out of there and so much happier! I would encourage any women out there experiencing this to stand up for themselves, no one should accept bad treatment- a legal dispute is a horrible and difficult process but as soon as you’ve done it you feel so strong and amazing- you’ll never look back!
