I worked full-time as a Project Manager for a local branch of a major UK charity. I had performed really well and the Director offered me the Deputy Director’s position, with a view to taking over from him in a few years’ time, as he was up for retirement. As soon as I announced my pregnancy, the offer was rescinded and I was instead made redundant at the end of my project contract. I have a Human Resource Management degree, so I knew my rights, but as I wanted to be a mum full-time while the kids were little, I wasn’t too bothered. If I’d wanted the job, I would have kept my pregnancy quiet until I’d signed the contract!
