I can’t have my old job back and have to gap fill the rota

I’m still currently on maternity leave, due back in a month – but have already been screwed over from afar. Summed up – as writing too much about this just makes me really angry – prior to going on maternity leave I was working 3 days a week as a doctor in a senior position in a well known central London hospital. I handed the management side of my role on to a colleague before leaving, which he reluctantly accepted on the premise that I would take back this role upon my return. Several months ago now, after multiple emails which were initially unanswered about a plan for my return to work – I eventually got a reply from said colleague who stated it “wasn’t as easy” as just “slotting back” into my previous day’s worked, as apparently there were now other people working those days who didn’t want to change….well fuck me sideways – that’s just fucking brilliant. A colleague who was previously managed by me, is now telling me that I can’t have my old job back and essentially have to gap fill on the rota. The saga has dragged on and on, I have been left feeling utterly deflated, powerless and shat on from a great height. The worst things are his bullshit “talk the talk but won’t walk the walk” emails – littered with buzz words about “wanting me to be happy about my return to work arrangements” thinly veiled bullshit, when they won’t actually do the one thing I want, which is go back to the same days and hours I was working before. I’ve now been roped in to doing some ridiculous arrangement wherein I am essentially cramming 3 days work into 2 long days, and has me pretty much backed into a corner where I’d imagine I’ll be handing my notice in fairly soon. Absolutely fuming.
