I returned to work when my baby was 8 months old, I spent 3 days in the office and worked one day from home. This was an informal arrangement. Shortly before I went on maternity leave a new Director had started, he was my immediate boss. I thought we got along well and looked forward to going back to work. However while I had been away much had changed within my department and I felt side lined. After a few very difficult months an external consultant was brought into my team without my knowledge to conduct a review, the parameters of which were never explained to me. At the same time I was preparing to make an official request for flexible working but my boss told me “it’s full time or nothing”. Things had deteriorated so much by then that I just handed in my notice. Had I not had a baby I am certain I would not have been forced into this situation.
