Thank you for raising these issues, I’m currently in the early stages of pregnancy and getting ready to tell my employer and plan my maternity leave. I must admit I thought I was quite clued up on the legislation but I had not realised that the employer only has to keep my current job open for 26 weeks! And after that they just need to give me an equivalent job – I was very surprised by that. My employer has an excellent maternity package with six months full pay so I admit I was thinking of taking 9 months leave – however the fact this may result in me losing my current post and being given an alternative elsewhere in the department now has me considering reducing my leave to only 6 months. Why have a law that states we can take a year of that at involve effectively redeployment in your company?! From my perspective not all jobs at the same pay grade in my department are created equal.
