I had worked for a very large well known organisation for 4 years, I had a performance review 3 months before my maternity leave was supposed to start, I was promised a pay rise.
I had to bring forward my maternity leave start date due to complications in my pregnancy. I chased my “promised’ pay rise during my one year maternity leave, I had Post Natal Depression throughout that time, a new male manager from the company actually came over to see me at home and tried to convince me it was all a misunderstanding and that there was no pay rise promised. It was a patronising and passive aggressive experience I will never forget, as I was so ill equipped to defend myself, sleep deprived, depressed and overwhelmed. I just gave up, something I would never do in a normal business environment.
