I would have been given a promotion and pay rise if I wasn’t going off on maternity leave

After successfully completing a major project for my employer I was more-or-less told that I would have been given a promotion and pay rise if I wasn’t going off on maternity leave. Within 6 weeks of going off, the job I wanted was advertised and recruited for. It included specialist subjects I was the most well trained in. A pat on the back for doing well is not the same as an increase in responsibly and pay grade. Discrimination is alive and well in pregnancy.
