It makes me cry how mothers are treated by employers & the government… Working, raising a family, managing a house & for some studying too, yet we’re still not good enough! It’s utterly disgusting!

Draconian & discriminatory society, not just employers, the government too! My contract of employment with my local council “was no longer required” two weeks after I informed them I was pregnant. Was then subjected to the Job Centre humiliating process of finding another job while pregnant (yeah, ok then!)… After I had my son I returned to work when he was just six months, as a single parent wanting to support myself I took the first job that came along, a large supermarket chain “who are family friendly”, more issues came along when shifts were suddenly allocated just outside of childcare hours (despite making it clear & agreeing when I could work)…. Disciplinary’s followed as I would be persistently 30 minutes late for a shift or because I had to leave on time to collect my son. I left after 12 humiliating & demeaning months!

Next job was for a family run travel company I used to work for… Brilliant! Until they sold to a larger chain, my partner moved in and childcare costs on my minimum wage salary left me with just £30 a week, not worth working, so I follow “the process” to reduce my hours to one day a week…

Suffice it to say, I’m now a full time mum focusing on finishing my degree to (hopefully) better my prospects, giving my son the best of my time while he’s still young… And skint beyond belief!
