It said that because of my miscarriage and pregnancy they doubted I would risk the stress of taking it to a full tribunal and they could get away with maybe a small pay-off

About 6 years ago, I was employed in a managerial position. I got pregnant, and had a second trimester miscarriage which led to me being off work for a week. As soon as they knew I was contemplating starting a family, things got tougher. And just when my baby would have been due, they called me into a meeting and told me I was being made redundant. At that point, I was pregnant again, though they didn’t know it at the time. Later, I filed a grievance for various reasons including unfair dismissal and equal pay. In the paperwork, I found a letter they’d sent me by accident, addressed to them from their lawyer. It said that because of my miscarriage and pregnancy they doubted I would risk the stress of taking it to a full tribunal and they could get away with maybe a small pay-off. I was appalled that someone would use such a painful and tragic incident in my own life against me. I took it all the way and eventually won an out of court settlement. I now have two beautiful daughters and a job I love, working for myself.
