I was made redundant on maternity leave. Before I left one of my bosses (a woman) told me she didn’t think women with under 5s should work. I was on a short term contract so I didn’t have a strong enough case to get compensation. (I threatened them with a tribunal and got 1 months pay in lieu of notice)
They had the opportunity to source funding to continue my role after my leave- the person who covered my leave was supposed to do this but the management just didn’t bother. So I’m in no doubt it was unlawful discrimination.
I ended up out of work for years. The effect on my family’s life has been catastrophic (homelessness etc)
In my opinion it should be criminalised.
