I have just finished watching kids vs career. I wanted to share that I too had a meeting with my boss, who offered to make my 6 month maternity cover into a permanent job (at which point I was around 9 weeks pregnant). I decided to be honest and tell them I was pregnant, which result in another meeting two days later where the explained the position was no longer available. As this was my second child, I had already had thoughts around potentially stopping work as I had already had 6 months of being stared at every time I left ‘on time’ to dash to pick up my daughter who was always the last one to be collected from nursery (and one of the first to be dropped off). I work/worked in a very female led area, and prior to having children I was one of those women who stared at people leaving on time to pick up a child and I worked all evening because I could. When my youngest was three I set up my own business and now work even more hours, but now manage to squeeze them in around various pick ups from school, football, cheerleading, gym etc etc. So all turned out ok in the end.
