I gave birth in November 2011, and went in for my first keeping in touch day in January 2012 to be told by my american boss that I had been off for a considerable amount of time ?! I requested to come back to work on 4 days a week which was sanctioned…I’d have liked to do less, but knew this would not be approved as out of a site office of 350 people there were no part time workers.
I was then invited to a meeting in May, with the Head of HR and Manager..they said that the woman who was covering my maternity leave had better skills to take the company forward and they were dismissing me.. I went immediately to an employment lawyer, bearing in mind I am an HR manager so knew my rights and was offered a settlement agreement which was more than I would have been awarded at tribunal.
