I was really happy in the job I had always dreamed of at a music publisher in London. I got on very well with my colleagues and sometimes overheard the director I worked with speaking about me to others in the industry in glowing terms. When I became pregnant everything changed. Suddenly many of my colleagues displayed outright hostility towards me. To my shock, one day I was summoned to the boardroom where I found myself at a full disciplinary meeting accused of everything from stealing to rubbishing my boss behind his back. The whole thing had been concocted and there was no evidence so it was dropped, but from that moment on I was picked at for everything it was possible to pick at me for. It was so horrible, so toxic, that there was no way I could go back after the baby’s birth.
