You’d think things would change but evidently we’re still stuck in the 1980s

The first morning back after maternity leave my mother got made redundant and put on gardening leave. She’d had no warning prior to that about any restructuring. Imagine all the stress of preparing to return to work, arranging childcare, the expense of buying replacement suitable clothes, transport costs and arrangements, preparing yourself psychologically when you’re at your most vulnerable etc. That was 3 decades ago. You’d think things would change but evidently we’re still stuck in the 1980s.
