How to make a donation or fundraise if you are a businesses or org

One off donations

Maybe it’s been a really good year for you. Maybe you’ve just got your generous pants on. Either way, we’re delighted that you’ve thought of us. Please make any one-off donation via the Just Giving link below. This is the most efficient and therefore cost effective way for us to process one-off donations, maximising the value of your money to our mission.

All one-off donations will be used as vital unrestricted funding so we can direct additional resources to where they are most needed. This is incredibly valuable as it allows us to respond quickly and effectively to unexpected and emerging issues that we haven’t already got covered in our budget (anyone remember Covid..?)

– If you have a corporate grant-making foundation and/or a formal charity partnership programme, and are interested in inviting us to apply (yay!)

Fundraising events

There are lots of ways you and your team can get together to raise money and have a laugh. I mean, who doesn’t love a yummy bake sale?! Other (less sugar-laden) ideas include team sponsored events and challenges, having an auction, raffle or lucky dip at your annual party, or even organising a fun event (e.g. crafts, a ceildah, axe throwing…) and asking attendees to make a donation in lieu of a ticket price.

Please bear in mind that you’ll need to ensure you have all relevant licences and any necessary insurance in place, and call us geeks if you like, but we recommend doing a risk assessment as part of your planning process.

You can collect cash in the old fashioned way then bank it and make your donation of the total via Just Giving. If you want to keep things cash free, you can set up a fundraising page on Just Giving linked to PTS meaning all the donation made via that will come directly to us, safe and sound with Gift Aid included.

Donating a percentage of your sales and/or eliciting point of sale donations

If you are a business that sells products, services or ticketed events, a great way to support us is by donating a percentage of your sales for a period of time, or encouraging customers to add a donation to PTS at the point of sale.

This kind of activity would fall under Fundraising Regulations so if this is something you are considering:

1. Please make sure you are familiar with, and in a position to comply with the requirements of the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice relating to Commercial Participators (see section 7.2 of the Fundraising Code)

Payroll giving for businesses

Payroll Giving (also known as Give As You Earn) is a tax-efficient and easy way for employees to donate through their salary. By encouraging your team to make a donation on a monthly basis, you are giving us the gift of regular sustainable and unrestricted funding. This is the stuff that charity CEOs go to bed every night dreaming about. It helps us ensure PTS is a sustainable, efficient organisation and gives us the flexibility to act quickly and respond effectively to unexpected and emerging issues. Anyone who pays UK tax through PAYE can donate via Payroll Giving. There is no minimum or maximum amount.

Donations are administered via payroll meaning employees donate straight from their gross salary. It’s super easy for them, and allows us to benefit from the tax relief. So, for example, when an employee who pays the basic 20% tax rate pledges £10 via Payroll Giving, PTS receives the full £10 but only £8 is deducted from their salary. Essentially, the income tax due is donated to PTS rather than paid to HMRC. Magic! It is also more efficient for higher rate taxpayers to donate through Payroll Giving, as opposed to Gift Aid, as, like all charities, we’re unable to claim back tax above the basic rate through the Gift Aid scheme.

To set up a Payroll Giving scheme, your business/organisation will need to register with an approved Payroll Giving agency. Our agency is Charities Aid Foundation (or CAF) so you will need to register with them if you want your employees to be able to donate to PTS.
