I had started working in a supermarket at the end of 2013, I was the youngest worker there, 17. I then started dating another member of staff. I fell pregnant June the following year. I told them about it and there was immediately a risk assessment put into place. Which wasn’t followed towards the end of my pregnancy. I complained lots of times but ended up getting bullied by another member of staff which left me no choice but to go on maternity at 29 weeks. I had planned to go on maternity at 35/36 weeks. Had my baby boy everything was lovely and perfect. Then it came to me going back to work. I had rang them up and we had arranged a meeting. I went to this meeting and explained my needs. I said I couldn’t work more than my 12 hour contract and I needed set days and times because my partner was working and I wasn’t prepared to put my son into the care of a stranger. Meeting was horrible. I received a letter a week or so later explaining they cannot fit my needs, pretty much forcing me into leaving as I had no other choice. What I didn’t understand was how they could accommodate other’s needs, for example some people can only work certain days and times due to college or uni. But they couldn’t fit to my needs as they had done to other colleagues. So thanks to them I am now unemployed. This company is awful, they didn’t follow my risk assessment which meant I ended up in hospital on one occasion and then they forced me out!
