Demoted after returning from maternity leave

I returned to work in November 2018 after 12 months’ maternity leave with my second child. I held a senior position for a tech company.

My role had been split in two during my absence, I was unable to return to the same role. By May 2019 I was in a redundancy pool with my maternity cover (male). No guessing who got the job. I had worked in the company for almost 20 years. I did find another role, a step down from my previous. It took HR 4 months to finalise a new role as an internal applicant. After 2 weeks in the new role, I decided I did not want to work hard for an employer capable of treating women in this way. I took a settlement agreement in Oct 2019. Here I am looking for a role in a pandemic.

Thanks you for the new book which I am reading, it has brought some comfort even after all this time. Onwards and upwards.
