I was bombarded by malicious texts and emails which included comments like “you obviously can’t work with two kids”

As a care manager, I took my role to help vulnerable individuals get the care they deserve.
I started with the company in 2016 and they seemed to have the same values as to how care should be provided. I was also caring for my Dad who had terminal cancer. I did not take time off as work took my mind off the loss when he passed in January 2017.

I found that I was pregnant in the December and was no longer with the father. It was such a shock as my eldest was 14. I told my employer who seemed to be fine. I had to complete my own risk assessments and just had to ask for a signature. I have birth to my son five weeks early in July 2017 and he had congenital sepsis and pneumonia. I also had sepsis, as well as post-natal depression and anxiety.

I returned to work part-time in October for financial reasons as my pay had been wrong whilst being off on maternity leave. In November I was bombarded by malicious texts and emails which included comments like “you obviously can’t work with two kids” which forced me to resign from my position. This left my family and I in a vulnerable position as I had my mortgage to pay. I am currently in the tribunal process and will continue even if unsuccessful – this will hopefully prevent the company from discriminating against people in the future.
