I was made redundant after a miscarriage

I started a new job last summer, and the day before I started I found out that I was pregnant. A few months’ prior I’d had a miscarriage at around 10-12 weeks so I was hesitant to tell my new boss my news until after 12 weeks – especially as the women I was working for were not interested in children.

I had early scans, first it was twins, then after losing one it was a single pregnancy. Then at 11w I started bleeding. A scan confirmed my fears, and on the early hours of Sunday morning I was taken to hospital with heavy bleeding. After staying in all day, I eventually collapsed from the blood loss and the surgeon was rushed to the ward to complete the miscarriage.

I then told work I was in hospital with a miscarriage and blood loss. They told me I could “take a day’s holiday” and then reminded me about my deadlines. Two weeks later I found my job advertised.
