MPs debate the cost of childcare

MPs recently debated the cost of childcare. That’s right! We had a full debate just on the cost of childcare! Something we’ve been trying to get on the agenda of the government and politicians for YEARS.

It’s taken more than 6 years of campaigning, 22 meetings with MPs, 5 ground breaking surveys, 2 front page newspaper stories, TV and radio coverage, 112,000 of you signing our petition with Grazia, 1 national protest, 2 government inquiries.. BUT finally!

It feels like the tide is turning and the Government has put childcare at the top of their agenda. Yesterday was a big day. After we met with 6 MPs and 1 minister to discuss childcare costs, there was a debate held in the House of Commons. The Government has now published information on their website to say they will be making an announcement about childcare in the next few weeks. I can’t guarantee this will fix the problem, but it shows that FINALLY, finally we are being heard.

Thank you to Stella Creasy, Munira Wilson, Siobhain McDonagh, Mumsnet, the Early Years Alliance, the Fawcett society and everyone who has worked so hard to keep this on the agenda.
