Hello, I’m Helen. I’m a 3rd year Law student at the University of Chester and this year the Project Manager of the Chester Community Law Project group tasked with updating our existing guidance sheets on the PTS website and creating new ones. I was responsible for the Grievance guidance sheet. This is a relatively new guidance sheet to the Pregnant then Screwed website and one that I feel is extremely important. Working on this project is very personal to me as I was treated badly by my employer when pregnant. This experience has made me want to fight for families and pregnant women’s rights and the Pregnant then Screwed charity does just that. To be able to sign post people when they are in need of such important information makes me feel incredibly proud.

Who we are

Our vision is a world where the mothers, parents and families of today and tomorrow thrive.
But the reality right now is mothers, parents and families are repeatedly failed by systems that are supposed to help them, systems which set up unfairness and disadvantage across a lifetime. This is the motherhood penalty, and Pregnant Then Screwed exists to challenge it.

Founded on International Women’s Day in 2015, we are rooted in lived experience and driven by fearless conviction. We challenge the systems that hold mothers back so that everyone who experiences motherhood can work and care without penalty. We campaign for change, offer support and advice, and build community with parents across the UK. We do this with power, courage and love.
