Kirsty’s Story

I’m on my second maternity leave, the amount of interest accrued while on two leaves means that I will never pay it back. Often, the amount I pay back on my part time salary is less than the interest added! It doesn’t make sense. I’m a teacher, without the University degree I wouldn’t be qualified to teach and yet am punished every single month and by two maternity leaves. I work part time to care for my disabled son and little girl. I cannot work more and yet I still end up paying £20 per month on student loans when I could do with this money to pay for childcare, expensive medical equipment.
